We are a group of performers from different musical societies who have come together to form 'The Cast'. You may have heard of us before as we have put on two successful productions of 'A Chorus Line' and 'Company', however that was nine years ago! Unfortunately the dreadful fire at the Duchess Theatre stopped any further productions at that time, but we always promised that when the Duchess was back up and running then The Cast would return: - we have now re-formed and are putting on the show 'Hot Mikado' in February 2012 (dates 14th - 18th). This show is based on the classic Gilbert and Sullivan piece but the script has been updated to more modern times accompanied by a jazz/swing soundtrack, packed with dynamic routines and many possibilities for energetic and fun theatre.
Like all great ideas it started over a glass of wine or two! Heather was in the original wine soaked discussion but I quickly realised what an exciting challenge this would be and signed up the very next day. The idea was to put on a show which would involve young (and sometimes not so young) talented people from different societies in the area. To come together, for one show as a co-operative. To be involved from the beginning in the running of a show, from production to final curtain call, wow what an opportunity!
For some one who had ardently watched all those great musicals that came out of Hollywood where actors like Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire said "Come on kids, let's put on a show" (think 'Singin' in the Rain' or 'Bandwagon') The Cast sounded like a dream come true for me.
I still feel the same way about it now 9 years later.
